I've always lived outside, sweating under the hot sun, day after day. The work is hard, and the pain is real. Death never fails us--but it's all I've ever known.

Still, every day, amidst the sweat and blood, I look out to the garden, and I know it could have been so much more. We could have lived forever.

Some days, hope rises up in me, and I think I could live above it all and break the barrier that keeps us out. But I feel depravity so heavily; Adam's blood is in my veins, and his evil is in my heart.
